Zayn Malik: 'They Call Me A Terrorist'

One Direction stud Zayn Malik has spoken out about how hard it is to deal with fame, especially when people make hurtful comments against him and his family.

The 19 year-old, who has become a global superstar since he auditioned for the X Factor in 2010 and while he and the rest of 1D have enjoyed huge success, the Bradford born stud admitted it had come at a price.

Abuse against him and his family got so bad the star even quit Twitter for 24 hours earlier this year, after growing tired of hurtful rumours and messages.

Speaking of abuse he receives from some people on Twitter, he told The Sun's Fabulous magazine: “Nasty things [were said] like I’m a terrorist, and this and that. How can you justify that? How can you call me that and get away with it?

“You can say whatever you want about me, I’m not really bothered. But when it starts to upset people I care about or I hear about it from my mum, then that’s a problem."

A practising Muslim, Zayn, who is currently dating Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, admitted he gets online abuse duty to his religious beliefs.

“My little cousin put up a family picture at Eid because she got a photo with Perrie and she was so happy about it. But then everybody just gave it to me double barrel,” he explained.

“We live in 2012 and I thought we’d moved forward. If that was said to me on the street or if someone said it to me to my face or whatever then something could be done about it.”

It's not the first time Zayn has been attacked due to his religious beliefs. Earlier this year US Right wing blogger Debbie Schlussel attacked Zayn after he tweeted messages about Ramadan and Allah.

The shocking claims made by the blogger were widely condemned. In a rant on her blog, Schlussel accused One Direction of “pimping Islam”.

“Keep your daughters away from Zayn Malik’s enticing jihad. With the boy band One Direction, it’s all about pimping Islam amid the deceptive visage of angelic, effeminate boys in a band."
