The X Factor: Ten Best Moments Of 2012

With the tenth series of The X Factor starting on our TV screens tomorrow night, we at EntertainmentWise are taking a look back at the best moments from last year's series, and hoping we will see some more of these amazing things happen this year.

1. Pink Lookalike Sees Red

It's a known fact that the main reason people tune into The X Factor at the audition stages is to laugh at the rubbish acts, but in last year's opening episode, viewers were shocked when Pink impersonator Zoe Alexander came onstage. Confusing the judges by singing a song by Pink, while saying she was "trying to get away from the Pink thing", she then went on to blame the producers for making her sing a Pink song. If you didn't think it could get any more awkward, Zoe then threw her microphone on the floor, stormed offstage, shoved parts of the stage over and swore at the judges and the camera crew.

2. Scary Spice Lives Up To Her Name

During the audition stages of last year's X Factor, there were a variety of guest judges including Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora. However, while Geri does deserve a special mention for standing on a car and being crazy in Liverpool, it was fellow Spice Girl Mel B who stood out. True to Scary Spice form, she was loud, gobby and said exactly what she thought at all times, to the point where she made a few people cry. Unfortunately, due to prior commitments, we lost Mel B to Australia's Got Talent.

3. Cry-lan

Two words. Rylan. Crying. It was amazing. At judges' houses, when Nicole Scherzinger told Rylan he was through to the live finals, he broke down and cried so much that he fell to the floor and couldn't close his mouth. He then proceeded to faceplant a cushion on the sofa, and hug Nicole, while she tried her hardest not to laugh. If there is someone on the show as funny as Rylan this year, we will be over the moon.

4. Rylan vs Gary

While everyone, including Rylan himself, was shocked that Nicole chose Rylan for the finals, seeing as he isn't the greatest singer in the world, no one was more surprised than Gary Barlow, and he let everyone know. Every single week that Rylan stayed in, Gary would get more and more wound up and both Rylan and Gary gave as good as they got, so much so that it ended up seeming a bit of a bromance. This was shown when a video of Rylan in a Take That tribute band was shown, and Rylan said to Gary, "I definitely wasn't you. I'm too skinny for that! However, the best moment of the battle was when Rylan came out singing Take That's classic 'Back For Good', before going into 'Groove Is In The Heart' and then, most incredibly 'Gangnam Style', which he changed to 'Rylan Style'. This may have been the moment that the UK decided they loved Rylan.

5. Gary Storms Off

The Rylan/Gary rivalry started in the first week of the live finals, when Carolynne Poole and Rylan found themselves in the bottom two. With Carolynne having the much better voice, and being one of Gary's acts, Gary got extremely annoyed when Louis and Tulisa chose to save Rylan. He got so annoyed that he stormed off set, shoved a camera and locked himself in his dressing room. Live TV, eh?

6. Scherzinger Being Shamazing

When Nicole was chosen as the fourth judge, viewers were very sceptical, however she soon won the UK over with her made-up words, craziness and her keeness to actually get to know her acts, which meant that not getting Mel B didn't seem so bad after all. Nicole made the word 'shamazing' a thing, and changed it up to include her act Jahmene Douglas' name, making it 'jahmazing'! She also did mad things like talk about Ed Balls, sing 'Horny' and get told off by Dermot O'Leary for being a bit naughty on more than one occassion. She also went to Asda AND wore the uniform with Jahmene, and got a vajazzle from Amy Childs. She is the epitome of shamazing, and we're hoping for more great words from her this series!

7. Lucy Spraggan's Beer Fear

We had never seen anyone like Lucy Spraggan on The X Factor before, and she may have paved a new way for original acts this year. She came on very unassuming in casual clothes, holding a guitar, and then sang 'Beer Fear'; a song that she had written herself. It echoed most of the population's thoughts on the morning after the night before, and got everyone laughing. It was also really catchy. Unfortunately for Lucy, she had to drop out of the competition during the live shows due to a throat infection, but her first audition will always be remembered.

8. Ella's Shock Exit

The biggest shock of the entire series was when the two favourites to win, Ella Henderson and James Arthur, ended up in the bottom two together. The judges were all noticeably angry about the two, with Tulisa calling it 'ridiculous', Nicole saying whoever went would be 'a great tragedy', Louis saying they should 'both have been finalists' and Gary stressing it was 'a singing competition'. As the judges couldn't make a decision, it went to deadlock and Ella got voted out much too early. James then went on to make an X Factor first, by being the first winner to have been in the bottom two at some point. This is one situation we don't want this year!

9. Tulisa's 'Fag Ash Breath'

To everyone's surprise, Christopher Maloney kept getting through each week, despite negative comments from the judges every week. However, Christopher's biggest hater was Tulisa, who criticised him for being out of date week after week. It all got a bit too much for Christopher's mentor, Gary, one week, when he turned round to Tulisa, and said 'I don't know what was more offensive; What you've just said or your fag ash breath'. Everyone, including Dermot, was stunned, and it made for great TV! More of this please, Gary!

10. James Arthur Gets It On

After being in the bottom two the previous week, James Arthur needed to pull something special out of the bag, and he certainly did that, when he performed a sexy and soulful rendition of Marvin Gaye's classic, 'Let's Get It On'. The unforgettable performance, where he flirted with Tulisa and Nicole simultaneously, transformed James into a sex symbol, and may be one of the reasons he won the show.
