Gary Barlow’s over 28’s avoided another casualty tonight as MK1 were booted out of the X Factor. The urban duo were left in the sing off with Kye Sones, which ended in deadlock.
MK1 sang first and opted for The Man Who Can’t be Move with an added rap twist. Charlie looked visibly nervous as her hand appeared to shake. However they both performed well and looked pleased with their performance.
They then stood with Dermot while Kye took to the stage.
Before he did mentor Gary Barlow told the camera that he had the flu and only this morning his voice had gone. Gary said he was “not sure what was about to happen.” Kye sang “You Can’t Make Me Love Me”, originally by Bonnie Rait and more recently covered by Adele. Despite the flu Kye managed to hit all the big notes and Gary looked impressed with Kye’s efforts.
Then the decision was in the judges’ hands. Gary and Louis went first, each voting for their respective acts. Nicole went next and didn’t take long to deliberate before sending MK1 home.
This meant that the decision lay with Tulisa. She opted to send home Kye as she saw MK1 as an “NDubz in the making” and that she had to “stick up for her urban N-Dubz” roots. She also said that N-Dubz had covered The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, which confirmed the vote in her mind.
This took the vote to deadlock for the second time in three weeks. And Dermot announced that MK1 were at the bottom of the public vote and so would be leaving the competition.
They hugged Kye and gracefully took the decision, as they have throughout the competition.
Did you think this was the right decision?
