The Killers surprised fans last night during their concert in Manchester when they ended the show early complaining of a sore throat.

Frontman Brandon Flowers and the rest of the group kicked off the gig with their smash hit single 'Mr Brightside' before performing another three songs including 'Smile Like You Mean It.'

However, before they began the fourth track, Brandon told the crowd that he was feeling poorly and taking a remedy drink throughout the show and would carry on. However, halfway through the fifth song, he apologised and walked off stage.

"They played 'Mr Brightside' and it sounded fine. I thought it was going to be great," Manchester Evening News' media reporter Katherine Vine said.

"But after the third song, 'Smile Like You Mean It', Brandon said that his voice had gone and that he had a Chinese remedy drink so he would take that."

"They started the [fifth] song but he didn't sing a lot of it and was motioning to the rest of the band that he could not carry on."

Explaining the moment fans learned the show would not go on, Vine added: "They left the stage and then a bloke came out and said that the gig was cancelled."

A statement on The Manchester Arena's official website confirms that the band's gig which was scheduled for today (November 14) has been postponed until a later date which is yet to be confirmed.

The band also apologised to fans on their Facebook, writing: "Manchester, we started something we couldn't finish and we're so, so sorry."

"Working on rescheduling tonight and tomorrow's shows. Will let you know new dates ASAP."

Ticketholders have been advised to still keep their tickets and contact their point of purchase for more information. It was announced this week that The Killers will be performing a one-off outdoor show at Wembley Stadium on June 22, 2013, which will be the band's biggest headline concert.
