Susan Boyle lands honorary doctorate

Singer Susan Boyle is set to receive an honorary doctorate in her native Scotland.

The star, who shot to global fame after appearing on Britain's Got Talent in 2009, will be feted by officials at Edinburgh's Queen Margaret University, where she studied for a certificate in care.

The accolade is in recognition of Boyle's contribution to the creative industries, according to Scotland's Daily Record newspaper.

Boyle will receive her diploma during a ceremony on 6 July.
