Strictly Tears! Victoria Pendleton In Tears After Salsa Leaves Her At The Bottom Of The Leaderboard

24 November 2012

It isn’t the first time and it probably won’t be the last, but tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing saw Victoria Pendleton reduced to tears, following the judges’ comments on her salsa.

The gold-medalist took to the dance-floor to salsa with partner Brendan Cole, to the tune of Robbie Williams’ recent number one Candy. The stage was decked with candy-canes and Victoria and Brendan donned candy pink outfits to go with the candy theme.

However it seems they didn’t sweeten the judges, as the pair received just 21 for their dance, leaving them at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard.

Craig was first to speak and told Victoria that the candy sticks had more fluidity than her. Former ballerina Darcey Bussell was next and eased the criticism slightly, telling Victoria she had great arms and the lifts were “amazing".

But Len brought Victoria back down again saying it needed “more oomph” and that it was a bit “light”. Bruno agreed, in his own dramatic way, saying that when Victoria stands still she is “fabulous,” but on the dance floor she “still doesn’t deliver.”

The tears were starting to form as Bruce sent the couple back up to Tess, who was waiting with the tissues. Tess asked the Olympic cyclist how she found the salsa. Victoria said she “enjoyed learning it” and after the scores were in she said, “All I can do is do my best.

She also said she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry – and it seemed she chose to do both! We are sure Victoria will come back with a bang if she remains in the competition.
