It was the quarter-finals of Strictly Come Dancing tonight and with the six contestants fighting for their place in the semi-finals next week, the stars took it up a notch as they each performed a dance fusion routine.

For the first time, and to spice things up for the contestants, they each had to perform a dance fusion, which involves mashing two different styles of dancing together.

First up, James and Denise took on a quickstep and jive, however after forgetting his steps last week, it was clear to see James was a little concerned about messing up his moves again.

Luckily, the duo managed to pull it off as judge Bruno declared: “The jive was incredible!” Even grumpy Craig agreed and added that the ‘kicks and flips were fantastic’ and that the ‘elements fused beautifully’.

Next up it’s Lisa & Robin and their chosen dance fusion is the Tango/Cha-cha-cha to 'Voulez-Vous' by ABBA. The dance really spiced up when Robin ripped off her Lisa’s long flowing skirt to reveal a very short but very sparkly miniskirt underneath. Although judge Len Goodman thought the dance was a bit ‘predictable’, the duo still received an impressive score and delivered and fun and camptastic routine.

After being in the bottom two last week, times were tough for Westlife’s Nicky Byrne as he faced the pressure of a dance fusion with partner Karen. This week the duo decided to combine an American Smooth and a Foxtrot - two very tricky dances - to hit ‘Troublemaker’ by Olly Murs. As Craig ripped the routine apart and announced that he thinks they’ll be dancing again tomorrow night (ouch!), Len congratulated the pair and thought the mix and the lifts were very good.

Next up were Tracy Beaker star Dani and partner Vincent as they pulled out a quickstep and Charleston mash up to ‘Happy Feet’ by Paul Wightman. After receiving a standing ovation from the crown, Bruno could hardly contain his excitement as he declared the dance as ‘absolute perfection’. It was, so far, the best comment of the night and earned them two 9s and two 10s from the judges, a great score for the pair and landed them second in the leaderboard at the end of the night.

After his fabulous performance last week, Louis and Flavia really had to step up their game to stay atop this week. As the mixed a Tango and Rumba to U2’s iconic ‘With Or Without You’, the pair were mesmerizing as they swept across the floor effortlessly. Although they didn’t top the leaderboard for a second week running, the Olympian still scored an impressive 37 from the judges.

Last but not least, Kimberley Walsh and partner Pasha took to the floor to dance their hearts out to ‘It’s Raining Men’ by The Weather Girls as they fused the Cha-cha-cha and the Tango. They obviously saved the best ‘til last as the duo received a full house from the judges with a perfect 40 - sending them straight to the top of the leaderboard! As they received the highest score of the season so far, their fantastic energy and great footwork clearly astonished the judges as Craig simply said: “That is dancing!”

Phew, what a night!
