Were Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez Sacked From American Idol?

15 July 2012

Fans were shocked to hear that both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez had decided to leave 'American Idol' – but according to rumours, they didn’t actually choose to quit the show.

According to Hollywood trade paper The Wrap, producers decided not to keep the stars on the payroll because ratings are falling.

Although she was paid $12 million for her first season, and $15 million for her second, insiders said that JLo was “surprised” when the network didn’t make a counter offer. It sounds like Jen faired better than Aerosmith frontman Steven though, apparently bosses didn’t even look into renewing his contract!

The last remaining judge Randy Jackson hasn’t been ditched yet, but according to rumours the show’s producers are thinking about getting rid of him as well to make room for three brand new stars, although host Ryan Seacrest will be returning.

If Jen's not returning to the show, she'll be able to enjoy some quality time with her family. Check them out enjoying a day at the beach here:
