Simon Cowell had everyone fooled on Wednesday when he asked his Twitter followers whether or not he should sign X Factor USA girl group Fifth Harmony, as he already had the plans in motion, announcing today that the girls are now part of his Syco rosta.

Fifth Harmony wowed the nation appearing on the second season of X Factor USA last year, and while they didn't win the competition, they are set to take the world by storm following their new record deal with Syco Music and Epic Records.

Explaining what pushed him to sign the five-piece, Simon said: “I knew from the girls’ first performance at judges’ homes in Miami that we’d done the right thing. The chemistry between the Fifth Harmony girls both on and off stage is fantastic.

“They are really great girls, who have become best friends. They’re great fun to be around and most importantly, they are all incredibly talented .”

As expected, the girls couldn't be more pleased with their new beginnings, taking it in turns to reveal their joy with the news.

Member Ally Brooke said: “OMG!! I'm so looking forward to working with the great Mr. LA Reid and of course my uncle Simon!! Rudolph (Simon calls me Rudolph) is ready to go!! I am going to have a BLAST recording with my girls and working with L.A. and Simon.  I promise we’re gonna bring it for our FLAWESOME Harmonizers! “

Normani Hamilton added: “The X Factor and Simon have given me and my Fifth Harmony sisters this wonderful opportunity to pursue our dreams.

"Becoming a part of one of the largest record labels in the industry plays a major role in making our dreams a reality. I am extremely excited to be signed to Syco and Epic Records.”

The news comes as Simon took to his Twitter yesterday to ask his followers if the girls were worth signing. “I see a lot of support for fifth harmony. Do you think we should sign the girls?,” Cowell tweeted.

“You know I like to get a little feedback from time to time and I trust your opinions. Maybe it's time for a large dose of girl power...”

The world had better brace themselves for another burst of girl power!
