He's swept the X Factor Results show every week after capturing the hearts of the nation with his old school 80s tunes, and despite triumphing again this week at the semi-finals, Chris Maloney was reportedly suffering from an illness on this week's X Factor.

Maloney, known for his classic ballads, was apparently so ill that he was advised by doctors not to take the stage, but persevered to make next weekend's X Factor final in spite of a vomiting tummy bug.

"Chris was very ill, but is a real trouper and went ahead," a source told The Mirror.

"He didn't want anything to get in the way of making the final. "The doctor ruled out food poisoning - it might be the winter vomiting bug. He was in a really bad way."

Maloney, who is mentored by Gary Barlow and has been supported by the Take That star despite receiving negative comments from the fellow judges, will compete in the final with soloists James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas – both mentored by Nicole Scherzinger next weekend.

And both Barlow and Scherzinger will sing with their respective acts during the final – it has been confirmed, so no hope for a duet with Beyonce this time, Maloney.

The X Factor final will take place next Saturday and Sunday (December 8 and 9) and will be broadcast live on ITV1.
