Shania Twain kicks off Las Vegas residency

Singer Shania Twain took to the stage for the first time in eight years on Saturday night to kick-off her 24-month Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace.

The country star went on hiatus in 2004 after losing her voice to a condition called dysphonia, but she showed no sign of vocal problems as she dazzled the packed crowd during a 90-minute, 18-song set at the Colosseum.

Clad in a lacy black bodysuit, she rode in on a high-flying bike and opened with I'm Gonna Getcha Good, later fighting back tears as she told her fans, "You're going to get me all emotional and my eyelashes are going to fall off!"

The 47 year old, whose younger sister Carrie Ann works for Twain as a back-up singer, made a number of costume changes, eventually putting on a pair of pink cowboy boots to perform I Ain't No Quitter atop a black horse and Still The One on the back of a white beast.

Closing out the gig with hits From This Moment and Man! I Feel Like A Woman, Twain added, "It's been a lot of years for me since I've been here. I realise what I've been missing, thanks to you."
