Miley Cyrus has admitted that sex is a powerful tool in Hollywood, and it's how many people become super famous, but the young star insists that it is not the sign of a true star.

The Heartbreaks & Ashtrays singer, who posed topless for a shoot with Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair magazine at the tender age of 15, has insisted that true stars actually find a way that isn't just taking their clothes off.

While stars such as Katy Perry and Rihanna dominate the charts, but are known for their highly sexualised image, Miley has told Elle magazine that she doesn't just want to be a "glorified model".

In the interview with Elle UK, Miley said: "A star is someone who doesn't have to take her clothes off to be sexy because you naturally have star power.

"Sex does sell, but you have to find a way that's not just showing your tits. I don't want to be a glorified model. They just walk on stage and it's all about their clothes - or lack of clothes."

Miley also touched on her controversial shoot, as she said: "You can't even look at something that's just beautiful without immediately going to sex. That's sad."

While at the time, Miley admitted that it had been a "dumb decision" to take her top off after a severe backlash from her young fans.

In an interview at the time, Miley reportedly told Saturday magazine: ""You can't even look at something that's just beautiful without immediately going to sex. That's sad."

Since Miley was first spotted without her engagement ring, and her fiance Liam Hemsworth was linked to another actress January Jones after they were spotted leaving a party together - the 20-year-old's relationship status has been unknown.

However in the new interview, Miley said: "We have a house together and dogs. It just seems right to be wearing this ring and to be committed. But we keep our relationship low-key and don't talk about it any more."

She continued: "We were too nice to the world and gave them too much insight - into my life and my puppies and my house - and I just don't feel they get that privilege any more.

"Like on my Twitter, I'm much more... not conservative, but you don't see a picture of my dogs. You don't get that personal stuff any more."

Miley's full interview appears in the June issue of Elle UK, on sale Wednesday 1 May.
