Former Coronation Street star Liz Dawn has paid tribute to her late on-screen husband Bill Tarmey, who has died at the age of 71.
Dawn starred opposite the legendary actor on the soap for almost 30 years, as they starred as Jack and Vera Duckworth.
She said: "Bill was part of my family. When you work with someone for so long as we did it becomes more than just work. Our families were close and I am devastated for [his wife] Ali and his family.
"I am totally bereft. He will always be remembered by everyone he came into contact with because he was such a kind and generous man. You couldn't wish to meet a more lovely man and a true gentleman.
"He was a gentle giant and I will miss him so much."
The couple went down in soap history for their hilarious comedy moments and their touching, more tender scenes. When Liz's character Vera was killed off in 2008, Jack's emotional farewell had millions gripped.
And when Jack himself was killed off in 2010, Vera was seen making a special appearance.
