Queen Latifah's Daytime Chat Show To Go Head-To-Head With Ellen DeGeneres

16 September 2013

Queen Latifah is about to step into the daytime chat show ring, against well established names such as Ellen DeGeneres today, launching 'The Queen Latifah Show', with Hollywood stars Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith acting as the show's executive producers.

The talented star's new show will air for the first time today, and she is said to be having Will Smith as a special guest tomorrow, as well as John Travolta, Jamie Foxx, Jake Gyllenhaal and Sharon Stone this week.

Will own's Overbrook Entertainment, the company behind the new show, and Pinkett Smith revealed during a conference in Culver City this summer that she thought Queen Latifah would be the best person for the job, having passed up on previous opportunities to work on daytime shows.

"We've had a couple of opportunities to do it, and we (thought), 'Who would be the best to do this?' And said, 'Latifah'. So I gave Latifah a call and I just asked her, 'La, are you ready?'".

Pinkett Smith, a well known actress and musician, admitted that she couldn't do the job.

"I have a very special talent," she laughed. "My talent is talking about all the things that nobody really wants to talk about. One of the no.1 rules of daytime is, 'Don't stress me (the viewer) out.' And of course, I love to talk about everything that stresses everybody out."

It sounds like the Smith family, along with Queen Latifah, are going to be pulling out the big gun for the show and calling on their Hollywood heavyweight pals.

"You always got to make phone calls. That's part of the game baby," she laughed.

Meanwhile, what will Queen Latifah be doing before she hits our screens? Bashing on some drums.

"I bang on my drums. I have a drum set in my dressing room. I play drums to relax and have some fun. I say a prayer, meet the guests and go rock the show. It's still a new thing for me," she said, reports USA Today.

Some may remember that the 43-year-old has already had her own show, The Queen Latifah Show from 1999 to 2001. She admits that she has learned from those experiences.

"That was a long time ago, over 10 years ago. I've changed tremendously. I enjoyed the first show, but there was a lot I wanted to do in terms of acting and producing. I've been able to satisfy that itch. now I can make a show that's much more what I want it to be."
