Prince William Beats Kate Middleton And The Queen To Most Popular Royal

Prince William has beaten the challenge from his wife The Duchess of Cambridge and The Queen to be named as the most popular royal in a new poll.

In a surprise result the 30-year-old beat his grandmother into second place, despite the fact that she is often is cited as one of the best monarchs in recent history and celebrated her Diamond Jubilee this year.

Prince Harry's naked antics haven't scuppered his chances of being rated as 3rd most popular in the poll, carried out by the reputable Ipsos/Mori firm this week.

The poll asked, "Whish two or three members of the Royal family do you like the most?", and Wills came top on 62%, with the Queen on 48, Harry on 36 and Wills' wife, Kate Middleton on 23.

Poor old Prince Charles languished in fifth on 21%, with his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, on a meagre 2%. Also down the list were Princes Andrew and Edward, on 2 and 1% respectively.

The poll shows how the public are identifying more with younger Royals, with the honourable exception of the Queen, who remains popular as ever. However in good news for the future of the Royals, nearly all their percentages were up on the 2001 figures.

It's been a remarkable couple of years for the Royals, with Wills and Kate's marriage,  the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and naked photo scandals this summer.
