It's definitely been a busy year in terms of Twitter and it's now been revealed that Barack Obama came out on top, with the President closely followed by Justin Bieber and Whitney Houston.
According to IBN Live, an election victory tweet from US President Barack Obama - "Four more years" with a picture of him hugging his wife - was the most retweeted ever, but the US election was topped by the Olympics as the most tweeted event this year, as it was retweeted more than 810,000 times.
"Within hours, that Tweet simultaneously became the most retweeted of 2012, and the most retweeted ever. In fact, retweets of that simple message came from people in more than 200 countries around the world," Twitter spokeswoman Rachael Horwitz said.
And it's now been revealed that Twitter users were the busiest during the final vote count for the US presidential elections, sending a whopping 327,452 tweets per minute, totalling 31 million election tweets for the day.
Unsurprisingly, closely behind Obama was teen pop sensation Justin Bieber, who used Twitter to build on his superstar status and now tweets messages every day to his millions of Beliebers.
His tweet, "RIP Avalanna. i love you" sent when a six-year-old fan died from a rare form of brain cancer, was retweeted more than 220,000 times.

Third most repeated in 2012 was a foul-mouthed tweet from Green Bay Packers NFL star TJ Lang, when he blasted a controversial call by a substitute referee officiating during the referee dispute, which was retweeted 98,000 times.
Superstorm Sandy, which slammed the US East Coast in late October, was also up there with the top tweets of 2012, attracting more than 20 million messages between October 27 and November 1.
News of pop star Whitney Houston's death in February generated more than 10 million tweets, peaking at 73,662 per minute.
Romantic comedy 'Think Like a Man' was the most tweeted movie this year, beating box office smashes 'The Hunger Games', 'The Avengers' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'
Apologies to Justin Bieber, as rapper Rick Ross, who notched his fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart this year, was the most talked about music artist.
