"I meant to say my apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."

We asked Cage, who appeared in the first Kick-Ass film, what his view of it all was.

He said: "Jim is Jim. Jim is gonna do what Jim wants to do and that's his decision... "I still believe in freedom of speech, I still believe that [the film is] an art, and I don't have enough proof yet about that correlation."

The star also rubbished speculation that he will appear in the sequel as well.

"I'm not in Kick-Ass 2, there's been much said that I am; I'm not, just to go on record right now," he said.

The Frozen Ground, directed by Scott Walker, stars Cage as Jack Halcombe, a man trying to track down and catch serial killer Robert Hansen (John Cusack) with the help of survivor Cindy Paulson, played by Vanessa Hudgens.
