The movie documents the tempestuous six-year relationship between Liberace (Douglas) and his much younger lover, Scott Thorson (played by Matt Damon).

But the 68-year-old actor’s happiness soon turned to tears once he was seated at a press conference.

Speaking on the movie that was filmed after his battle with cancer, the Hollywood star revealed that he was grateful that everyone involved in the movie patiently waited for him to make a full recovery.

"It was right after my cancer," the actor told the audience, before touchingly adding: "And this beautiful gift was handed to me and I’m eternally grateful for everyone for waiting for me."

As the father-of-two tried to regain his composure, his speech was met with a round of applause.

Michael revealed that he had beaten throat cancer back in January after two specialists initially failed to spot the disease. He told the New York Post after that he took the diagnosis head on by mentally preparing himself for the bad news.

"That’s life. Things had been going good for me for a long time. I was ready for some karmic retribution," he said in an interview.
