Marina And The Diamonds: 'I've Bankrupted My Record Label'

Marina And The Diamonds has suggested that she's bankrupted her record label following the high-budget release of her second album.

Electra Heart hit No1 in the UK and 31 in the US, but the singer - real name Marina Diamondis - has said in a new interview that it's been far from a profitable campaign.

Speaking to Canadian paper The Province, she said of her latest direction: “You may as well accept what your talent is and support it, rather than quashing it or dumbing it down to make yourself more likeable for radio.

"It’s why I built Electra Heart and the elaborate concept behind it. It was my way of justifying taking that commercial path, when really I had been signed as a lo-fi sounding songwriter."

And speaking of the future of this particular collection, she added: "I have three more video parts I will put out. I’ve bankrupted my label (apparently) so we have no money, but we’re going to do it and finish this era the way I want to. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!"

The album spawned the No11 hit single 'Primadonna' and follow-ups 'Power and Control' and 'How To Be Heartbreaker'; and last week Marina also debuted a free song with Charli XCX which was met with critical acclaim.

Her debut, 2010's The Family Jewels, charted at No5 in the UK and was certified Gold by the BPI.
