Move over, Britney! According to TMZ, Mariah Carey just took the title of the highest paid judge on reality television all thanks to the one-year contract she signed with American Idol that is worth almost $18 million.
Mariah’s predecessor Jennifer Lopez only raked in $12 million for her first year, and turned down the offer to return a second year; Christina Aguilera will make a reported $10 million for the third season on NBC’s The Voice, meanwhile Britney Spears will make an approximate $16 million for only a year at The X Factor.
Mariah, a five-time Grammy winner, confirmed on Monday that she would join the music competition show.
She said in a statement, "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back to American Idol.”
"I'm currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, 'Triumphant,' which will be out early next month," she added. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”
The singer also sent out a tweet to her followers regarding her announcement, “It’s gonna be so much fun working on @American Idol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture talent. LYM! – MC”
