Lorde calls out the pop establishment and their young mainstream groupies in her new music video for Team.
"I'm kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air, so there," she sings.
Team imagines a world where regular teenagers run things their way without the outside pressures of being the prettiest or the most popular.

“We live in cities you’ll never see on screen. Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things.”
Her idea for a teenage utopia came from a dream she had one night. "this video was borne from a dream i had a few months ago about teenagers in their own world,” Lorde wrote on her Facebook page. “a world with hierarchies and initiations, where the boy who was second in command had acne on his face, and so did the girl who was queen.”
The video depicts a new member in the underground teen world and his initiation to the “team.” He must participate in a motorized joust with make shift lances in order to join. His competitor knocks him from his motorbike, but helps him up after, a sign of acceptance.
“I dreamt about tests that didn't need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger,” Lorde wrote.
Lorde’s teen community takes refuge in old warehouses near the docks and she fills their inner sanctuary with wild plants.
“i dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat.”
