Kimberley Walsh: 'X Factor Needs To Get Cheryl Cole Back'

Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh says Strictly Come Dancing's Saturday night rival, The X Factor, is missing her bandmate Cheryl Cole as a judge and mentor. But to make it work, show boss Simon Cowell would also need to rejoin the panel to revive their on-screen chemistry.

Kimberley, is adamant that the return of Simon and Cheryl could help ITV's ratings bounce back. She told the Daily Record: “Cheryl was a brilliant judge and I think she is really missed by the public. The chemistry she had with Simon was very amusing to watch. They were a great double act. I used to watch it every week when Cheryl was on it but I haven’t tuned in once to this series."

“It’s been going for such a long time and it’s hard to keep up the same level of interest.” Kimberley, who is getting consistently high marks from the judges, added: “Strictly is a warm family show and I think viewers are enjoying the escapism it offers.

Kimberley believes that the shows are miles apart: “Although the celebrities are competitive, it is not life or death when someone leaves. The X Factor is much more serious and the contestants are devastated if they get voted out, which can make for difficult viewing.”

The Bradford born singer celebrated her 31st birthday last Saturday at a joint party with Sarah Harding and admitted her bandmates have been key to keeping going as she balanced Strictly with rehearsals with Girls Aloud. But bandmate Nadine Coyle was absent from the party, igniting rumours that the band's honeymoon period is over.

But when it comes to Strictly Come Dancing, Kimberley hopes to stay in the competition for a while longer “I have never let myself think about winning the show but there are lots more dances I want to learn, so hopefully I will stay in for another few weeks.”
