One of the Australian radio DJs who prank called the hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated earlier this month, was mistaken with Spice Girl Geri Halliwell by BBC News last night.

Following Mel Greig and Michael Christian's prank to the King Edward VII Hospital, the nurse who put their call through - Jacintha Saldana - apparently took her own life. Remorseful for their actions, Greig and Michael have since appeared on Australian TV where they have offered their apologies.

However, when the 10 O'clock BBC News covered Greig being interview on Australian TV, they made the embarrassing mistake of calling Greig, Geri Halliwell in the caption below her face.

Since then a rep for the BBC has apologised for the mistake, telling us:

"Due to a technical error, we briefly displayed an incorrect on-screen caption during last night's News at Ten. The caption was removed immediately and we apologise for the error."

Speaking about how they felt when they heard about the death of Jacintha Saldana, Greig admitted:

"There’s not a minute goes by that we don’t think about Jacintha’s family and what they must be going through and the thought that we may have played a part in that is gut-wrenching.”

Since their appearance on Australian TV, it has been confirmed via a statement released by Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) that the show Greig and Christian presented on 2Day FM had been "terminated" with "a company-wide suspension of “prank” calls."
