Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge will be carrying out public engagements until she's at least eight months pregnant, as it's been announced today she'll be naming her first ship, the Royal Princess, in Southampton in June.

The mum-to-be will become "godmother" to the Royal Princess in a naming ceremony in the Hampshire port later this summer, just a few weeks before she becomes a mother for real, when she give birth in mid-July.

The 31 year-old will join other royals, including the Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in naming a ship and will christen the 141,000 ton vessel on June 13 in a dockside ceremony, the Southern Daily Echo reports.

Alan Buckelew, president and CEO of Princess Cruises, said: “It is a great honour for Princess Cruises that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has accepted our invitation to become the Godmother to Royal Princess.

"We are delighted that the Duchess will launch our new ship and can think of no better way to celebrate our company's British heritage and our commitment to the country."

Kate confirmed she's due in mid-July during a visit last week to Scotland, though admitted babies rarely stick to the schedule.

“It’s around mid-July but apparently babies have their own agenda,” she told reporters.

But the Duchess was more coy about baby names, claiming the couple haven't settled on one just yet.

"We have a short list for both [boy and girl] but it's very difficult," she added, "my friends keep texting me names."

Despite claiming no name has neen picked, insiders claim they've settled on the name Philip, in honour of William's grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

“The name Philip is in the frame for a boy," a source told the Daily Star. “It will certainly have it somewhere in his name."

“It is popular with them at the moment and could even be the first name as William is very fond of his grandfather," they added.
