Move over Leona Lewis because James Arthur could sell more copies of his single - a cover of Shontelle's 'Impossible' - than any other winner of the show.
According to the latest stats by the Official Charts Company, 187,000 copies of James' single have been downloaded since midnight last night, just a day after he was crowned winner of the show ahead of Christopher Maloney (who came third) and Jahmene Douglas who came second.
Going on the sales a day after winning, James has already beaten Alexandra Burke's record when she released 'Hallelujah', Matt Cardle's 'When We Collide' and Little Mix's 'Cannonball'. Even Leona Lewis' 'A Moment Like This' only sold 101,000 copies.
Speaking about the sales of James' record since his victory on Sunday, managing director of the Official Charts Company, Martin Talbot, said in a statement:
"There has been a lot said about X Factor’s popularity this year and questions have been raised that perhaps its momentum is beginning to wane.
"But this amazing opening performance by James Arthur suggests that it remains the pre-eminent launch pad for new artists.
"Whether Arthur will match Shayne Ward’s 2005 total, only time will tell – but he has a fantastic chance.”
