Hugh Hefner is disappointed over the cancellation of "The Playboy Club" on NBC, the first television casualty of the Fall 2011 season.

"I'm sorry NBC's 'The Playboy Club' didn't find it's audience. It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience," Hugh Tweeted on Tuesday night.

Hugh himself was written into the drama, narrating at times, and at others, an actor played the Playboy founder, shown only from the back.

"Fans of 'The Playboy Club' are really upset at the cancellation," Hef added.

While the show, which starred Amber Heard and Eddie Cibrian, won't continue, Hugh said fans of the genre may be able to find its subject matter on the big screen one day.

"At the same time, there is renewed studio interest in a major motion picture on my life & the start of the Sexual Revolution," he Tweeted.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com , NBC pulled the plug on "The Playboy Club" on Tuesday morning, following the airing of its third episode on Monday night, which attracted only around 3.5 million viewers.
