Girls Aloud Song 'Originally Recorded By Britney Spears'

23 October 2012

One of the Girls Aloud songs voted by fans onto the second disc of their Ten: The Hits compilation was originally offered to Britney Spears.

'Grafitti My Soul', originally released on the girlband's 2004 opus What Will The Neighbours Say?, was intended for release by the new X Factor USA judge, but she turned it down.

Britney is also known to have had the chance to release Rihanna's 'Umbrella' and Lady GaGa and Beyonce's 'Telephone' as well.

Whilst most of Girls Aloud's output, helmed by Brian Higgins of Xenomania, has been hailed for its refusal to abide by traditional verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure, Britney's management were allegedly unimpressed by the lack of "repetitive parts".

Higgins told The Observer back when the track was released: "The record company loved it, but Britney's people said 'Where's the chorus? Why are there no repetitive parts?'"

It is thought that Britney's people then asked Cathy Dennis to write for her instead, and 'Toxic' was born. Sounds like everyone was a winner!

Girls Aloud confirmed their reunion last week, and will embark on an arena tour next year. They have also been named the best-selling girlband of the last decade in the UK, despite never attempting to break any major international markets - like the USA.

'Graffiti My Soul' could well be performed, after being selected by fans as one of their most popular songs.
