Jennifer Lopez A.K.A J.LO is gearing up for her return to American Idol, which will hit screens on 15 January, and to celebrate I thought I would share some little known facts about the actress, singer and American Idol judge.
1. J.LO has some big name celebrity fans
'The Wedding Planner' star is not just an icon to fans around the world, she has also won the hearts of Beyoncé, Kerry Washington, Jessica Alba, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez and many more.
Bey worked with J.LO on a Pepsi commercial, and later described her as a very intelligent woman who is "unbelievably beautiful and talented". Kerry credits Jennifer, who lived a few blocks away from her, for inspiring her to chase her dream of becoming an actress. While Britney said the 'Out of Sight' actress "looks more amazing than ever" and is her real life icon.
2. J.LO first rose to fame as a dancer
It's no secret that Jen can cut shapes like the best of them but her dexterity for dance came long before she made it as a singer. She got her first big break as a backing dancer for New Kids on the Block before becoming a Fly Girl dancer on the TV show 'In Living Color'. She also worked as a backing dancer for Janet Jackson before pursuing a career as a movie star.
3. J.LO has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
She has forged a successful career as an actress, singer, dancer, fashion designer and business woman, and in 2013 she received the 2,500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The honour, which most entertainers can only dream of, recognised her contribution to music, and with record sales of more than 75 million under her belt and an international fanbase, it is easy to see why.
4. Jenny from the Block has a couple of records under her belt
In 2001, when her album 'J.LO' and her film 'The Wedding Planner' were released at the same time, she became (and remains) the first entertainer in history to have a number one album and film in the same week. She only bettered this impressive achievement in 2004 when she appeared in the Guinness Book of Records, as a result of her album, 'J-to-tha L-O!', becoming the first remix album in history to top America's Billboard 200 chart. In addition, her 2011 song 'On the Floor' is one of the best-selling singles of all time and its music video is the most-watched female music video in history.
5. J.LO is credited for breaking racial barriers and making curves cool
When she was younger, Jennifer was nicknamed "La Guitarra" because her body was as curvy as a guitar. And her derriere is still one of the world's most famous. She is regarded as the most influential Hispanic performer in the US and is still the highest paid Latin actress. She paved the way for other Hispanic performers as well as the famously bootylicious Beyoncé.
JLO gets better with age and is still one of the hottest stars in the entertainment industry. Luckily, you won't have to wait much longer to see her because she will be back on our screens tomorrow.
