Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge 'Persuade Prince William's Former Nanny To To Help With Prince George's Care'

11 August 2013

Initial reports suggested Prince William and Kate Middleton were against the royal tradition of hiring a nanny to help take care of their son Prince George, instead preferring to be 'hands on parents'. It looks like the Duke and Duchess may be enlisting some help after all though, as reports suggest they've asked Wills' childhood nanny to care for their newborn.

With William now back at work, Kate is currently at her parents home in Berkshire but when the couple return to their royal residences of Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall in Norfolk after the summer break, it's thought a more formal system of care has been advised.

The Duke of Cambridge is reported to have asked his former nanny Jessica Webb to come out of retirement to help with George's care, the Sunday People report.

The 71-year-old is said to be sorely tempted to help her one time charge and his wife although was allegedly concerned about having full-time duties again. Despite her reservations insiders say Jessie, as she is known, is more than happy to help William, with an insider revealing of the move:

“They [William and Kate] both accept the view that they won’t be able to do it all. There is also a feeling that Kate might lay herself open to criticism if she is seen letting her mother have too much influence."

“William has very fond memories of Jessie and they’ve put the idea to her that she comes back. I think she’s very flattered.”

William was said to adore Jessie as a child, with the nanny helping him and his brother Harry through the difficult years of his parents' divorce:

“Jessie would stand for no nonsense and would want to do things her way. You had to be tough because being nanny at that time could be a very stressful job. Charles and Diana’s marriage was breaking down. But she tried her best to keep the boys away from the tears and the rows," the insider adds.

“Jessie was very kind to the boys and William will remember this. Charles was particularly fond of her. Diana, I think, a bit jealous because she was actually more fun. Diana used to make a big thing of the hugs but she also used to slap the boys’ legs when they were naughty. Jessie didn’t approve.”

William has stayed close to Jessie since her retirement, with his former nanny a guest at the royal wedding two years ago. One royal courtier has revaled that Jessie's appointment to the royal household “would be ideal. Everyone likes her. She’s discreet and she’s of an age when she’s not going to have her picture in the papers every five minutes.”
