Doctor Who's Matt Smith Admits He Wants To Crack Hollywood Even If It Takes Him 50 Years

5 September 2013

Matt Smith might still have a few months left playing the role of Doctor Who, but the actor is already looking to crack Hollywood and it appears he's going to do no matter how long it takes him!

The star who announced his departure from the show earlier this year, revealed that he is content with leaving Doctor Who and is looking forward to starting new projects. Speaking at the GQ Awards in London earlier this week, the Metro quoted the actor saying:

"I’ve had a wonderful ride and I enjoyed making the show and I leave it very happily.

"I try not to take on any pressure. Take each job as it comes and if it takes me twenty years or thirty years or fifty years, hopefully I will get there in the end."

Matt Smith spotted in London earlier this year filming scenes for the 50th anniversary special (WENN)

But before he can shoot off to Hollywood, he has to film scenes for the Christmas episode which is due to begin filming on Sunday.

Revealing to ITV's Daybreak that the cameras will begin rolling for the special episode over the weekend, Matt commented: "I'm excited - I start shooting the Christmas special [on] Sunday. It'll be sad - the end of a wonderful era!"

Since Matt announced his exit from the show, details of how Matt will bow out of the show have been kept secret. However, it was recently speculated that  the Cybermen will feature in the episode which will also see Peter Capaldi make his debut as the new Doctor.

Hinting about which characters fans will see, stunt actor Daz Parker tweeted: "Great to be stunting again for Dr Who in the Christmas special playing a Cyberman!"

Meanwhile, as the preparations are made for the start of filming for the Christmas episode, Matt revealed that he will have to undergo his own transformation by wearing a wig having shaved off his hair for a movie role recently.

He mused about the idea of wearing a wig: "I [cut my hair] for a film, but it means I have to wear a wig in Doctor Who, which is a nightmare."
