Kristen Stewart's affair with Rupert Sanders last summer might have damaged her relationship with boyfriend Robert Pattinson, who was reportedly “devastated” by the fling, but according to her mum, producer Jules Stewart she taught her daughter that it was “ok to make mistakes”.

Speaking about her famous daughter the Los Angeles based movie maker insisted she's brought her daughter up as someone who was never going to be “afraid” to “do something different.”

“Well I tried to raise my kids…I didn’t raise them to be children, I raised them to be adults,” Jules told SuicideGirls, a Lifestyle website.

“That is a concept that might be lost on a lot of people. I also tried to make them understand that it’s OK to make mistakes, so don’t be afraid to have a go at doing something different.”

She went on: “And in that vein of ‘I’m interested in this, let’s try it, let’s see what happens,’ my kids have always been the first ones on the line ready to have a go at something different. And it’s OK to fail, because that’s how you learn, when you fail.’”

We wonder if it was that attitude that enticed Kristen to cheat on her boyfriend of three years with the married director who was almost two decades over. At the time the actress apologised for what she called a “momentary indiscretion” after the pair were photographed kissing in the Hollywood Hills.

The 22 year-old is known to be close to her mother. Jules tweeted only a few weeks ago about a “bake off” with her daughter.
