Daniel Radcliffe 'Lost All Confidence' After Harry Potter

4 December 2012

He shot to fame as the boy wizard but Daniel Radcliffe has admitted he struggled with his confidence after the world dominating Harry Potter film franchise came to an end.

The actor has gone on to star in a number of critcially acclaimed films since the final Harry Potter film in 2011 including horror hit 'The Woman in Black'. Despite his success, Radcliffe admits the year or two after he hung up his cloak and wand were some of the most challenging of his career.

"With any kind of artistic thing it's a muscle, like any athlete, and the moment you're not doing it, you lose all confidence. That's why I'm terrible with down time."

His low points soon passed though as he began to find work and critical success again:

"Actually what's been great about the last year and a half is that I have found a confidence. Before, basically, by the time we got to the end of 'Potter', I was going, 'I don't know if I can do this, I don't know if I'm good enough.'"

Daniel's latest project in a role 'A Young Doctor's Notebook',a TV adaption of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel 'A Country Doctor's Notebook', co-starring Mad Men's Jon Hamm. Daniel says he was overjoyed when he was approached as he's an "obsessive fan" of the Russian author, telling The Independent Radar magazine:

"They had no idea, that I was this obsessive fan. I read it and immediately loved it, and read it again immediately afterwards, and then, for my 21st birthday I went to Russia to visit his apartment, as my present to myself."

Catch Daniel in 'A Young Doctor's Notebook' on TV screens next year.
