Carrie Underwood Admits That She's Avoiding Gay Marriage Controversy

Carrie Underwood may be famous for country music but, after recently voicing her support for gay marriage, the musician has found herself caught up in a media storm...

In an interview with The Independent, the former American Idol contestant explained that she was a staunch supporter of gay marriage:

"I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people we want to love."

She also explained that her church was gay-friendly and that it wasn't her job to judge people. But, while we may love her for her equal rights approach, Underwood's comments have since created a backlash online from those angry with her stance.

Joseph Farah, of World Net Daily, has slammed the star for committing the sin of blasphemy:

"The Ten Commandments are not suggestions. They represent the difference between life and death...[Carrie Underwood has committed] blasphemy – and there’s just too much of it coming from people claiming to be Christians."

And, sadly, he's not the only one to attack Carrie Underwood for her stance on gay marriage. A recent article on The Boot received a number of negative comments from those against the idea:

"The Bible says what is says, and you can either follow it or not. It is explicit in the Bible that men do not lie down with men and women the same ... God will judge Carrie, not me."

"Equal rights...yea sure!!! Carrie Underwood read the bible.. Honey!! The bible says.. Adam & Eve... Not Adam & Evan"

Underwood explained to The Associated Press that she is avoiding reading any online criticism from those who aren't happy with her recent interview.

"I just really try hard to do what I do and try to be nice to people and make great music and if people think they can look up to that, that's wonderful. If not, that's OK too."

She also explained that the subject was a difficult one but that she answered it in the only way she knew how:

"I was asked a difficult question in the last five minutes of an interview and I answered it the best way I knew how, and after that I do what I do and I love making music and I generally try to stay out of any kind of controversy."

Stick to your guns, girl!
