BGT Singing Duo ‘Charlotte And Jonathan’ Wow Simon Cowell

An opera and pop singing duo from Essex have wowed the Britain’s Got Talent judges and the British Public alike, with their classical performance which closed tonight’s opening show of the 2012 series.

Viewers at home witnessed a Susan-Boyle-style moment when 17-year old Jonathan, who suffers confidence and weight issues, began singing opera with his singing partner Charlotte at the London auditions.

However shy 17 year old Jonathan revealed he has been bullied in the past for his larger-than-life appearance:

“I’ve always had a problem with my size since I can remember and when I was in primary school it was back then really that I had the mick taken out of me and it kind of damaged my confidence quite a bit.”

However Charlotte, a staunch defender of her friend, has defended Jonathan against the bullies in the pas and said that you “shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, you’ve got to read what’s inside.”

Camera shots of the judges and crowd before their performance suggested that they thought the duo were going to be a disaster, yet in a compete u-turn, their performance earned a standing ovation from both the BGT judges as well as the crowd in the arena.

All four judges were amazed that at 17 years of age Jonathan had such a powerful voice. New judge Alesha Dixon was wow-ed by the duo claiming their performance was “world class” with music mogul Simon Cowell stating that Jonathan has an “outstandingly good voice.”

Simon later advised Jonathan to ditch Charlotte as he felt that she could “hold him back” in the competition, advice which was swiftly disregarded by Jonathan as he said “we’ve come on here as a duo and we’re gonna stay here as a duo.” (sic)

However when casting his vote, Simon accepted that whilst his “head” said that Jonathan should ditch Charlotte, his “heart saw something special” between the pair and he gave them their fourth unanimous ‘yes’ vote which sent them straight through to the next round of the competition.

With comparisons between Jonathan and star of Britain’s Got Talent series 1, Paul Potts, it certainly looks like ‘Charlotte and Jonathan’ are the act to watch out for later this series…

What did you make to the act? What did you think to Simon’s suggestion that Jonathan should ditch Charlotte and go solo? Britain’s Got Talent continues next Saturday on ITV1.
