The UN General Assembly Hall is more usually the host to bitter arguments between angered nations' representatives, but it was a different story on Friday night as Beyonce wowed an audience by performing her hit 'I Was Here'.

The 30-year-old received rave reviews both from fellow stars and UN officials, MTV reports. The event was hosted by news anchor Anderson Cooper, who said:  "Is this what happens at the U.N. every Friday night? Because, I've gotta tell you ... I wanna be here every Friday night if this goes on."

The performance is in aid of World Humanitarian Day, and video of it will be released on August 19, the day which commemorates 22 humanitarian workers who were killed in a 2003 terrorist attack in Iraq.

A website, WHD-IWasHere.org, has been created with the UN hoping to get 1 billion people to pledge to help the needy

From the stage, Beyonce reportedly said: "I'd like to ask everyone to make sure they're a part of August 19th."

She added: "It's such a beautiful, beautiful day, and I'd like to honor the 22 people who lost their lives. God bless you all. Thank you so much for having me."

So not only did those there get to see an amazing gig by Beyonce, but they also have the chance to help out with World Humanitarian Day!
