'Roar' songstress, Katy Perry, has joined the lengthy list of performers for the 41st annual American Music Awards.
The star-studded annual awards show, will take place on Sunday November 24th 2013 at Los Angeles' renowned Nokia Theater. Hosted by rapper Pitbull, and broadcast live on ABC, the awards show will showcase performances from some of the very best in the game, whilst also honouring numerous influential music acts.
With Katy Perry set to open the spectacle with her hit, 'Unconditionally' (the video of which premiered this week), the show will also feature high profile performances from the likes of Lady Gaga, R Kelly, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Christina Aguilera, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Ke$ha and Justin Timberlake, amongst many others. Jennifer Lopez is also on the bill and is set to perform a tribute to the late Celia Cruz, whilst the remaining members of girl band TLC are returning to the show, and are rumoured to be teaming up with a special, yet currently unannounced guest performer… By just reading that list we're struggling to catch our breath, we just can't wait for this.
Self-confessed rebel. Miley Cyrus, will close the parade with a performance of 'Wrecking Ball' - Just breathed a sigh of relief there, definitely didn't want to see a repeat of that infamous 'Blurred Lines' performance from the MTV VMA's (yes, THAT one) I mean, how could we ever forget? (We'd like to, but we unfortunately can't.)
As if the show couldn't get any better, pop hurricane Rihanna will also be performing and will pick up a special accolade on the way. With what is certain to be the main talking point of the night, Rih is to be awarded the prestigious honour of first EVER AMA Icon award, in recognition of her vast achievements during her short, yet highly successful career - from numerous #1 albums, singles, tours, movies, endorsement deals and broken records, Queen Fenty has done it all - all, at the age of just twenty-five years old (I don't think she has enough space left on her "awards shelf", just saying) - this is definitely the part that i'm most looking forward to, she definitely deserves it.
Although this is the first time the AMA Icon Award is being presented, the awards' has previously awarded the iconic, International Artist Award of Excellence to just seven musical greats, including the likes of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, The Bee Gees and Beyoncé.
Six-Time AMA award winner RiRi will compete in four categories at this years event, including against Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake for Artist Of The Year and Best Soul/R&B Album for her seventh studio album, 'Unapologetic'. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis currently lead the nominations pack in six categories, with Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift close behind with five apiece.
Is it too early to say the AMA's will be a best show of the year? I think not, with a line-up like that - it's clearly evident that it will be,
