MTV have announced the winner of their prestigious Brand New 2013 title today with unsigned singer Ebony Day winning the accolade.
Beating off favourites Garbrielle Aplin and Haim, Ebony’s win was all the more impressive due to the fact that she was the only act to not be signed to a major record label.
That’s pretty good going.
So who is Ebony Day exactly?
Well she’s been dubbed as the female equivalent to Justin Bieber and Conor Maynard wracking up over 19 million views on Youtube from covers and original tracks she uploaded herself.
MTV Brand New is voted for by the public so thanks to Ebony’s loyal fan base, the singer nabbed the title despite having limited media coverage.
Talking about her win, Ebony admitted that she was overwhelmed when she found out the news.
She said: "I'm so overwhelmed that my fans have made this win possible for me!
“It's all down to their ongoing support and hard work that I have won MTV's Brand New of 2013 and I can't thank them enough.
“This is a dream come true for me, I've never been happier."
Last year’s winner Conor Maynard has gone on to produce four top singles and a number one album so it is safe to say that Ebony is in good company.
