Strictly's Natalie Gumede: How I left Artem in a bloody, dazed state - EXCLUSIVE BLOG

Corrie star Natalie Gumede is blogging exclusively for Yahoo as she tries her luck at Strictly Come Dancing this year with partner Artem Chigvintsev. Despite coming back from a back injury that threatened to end her dancing days, she suffered another setback on Saturday when Artem broke his nose. This week she's feeling guilty and waiting for his revenge...

Another Saturday, another show… you would think that things would start to feel a little more routine by now, but there's always a curveball waiting to launch itself at you from the wings.

It's now well documented that not satisfied with doing myself an injury in the last few weeks, I fractured Artem's nose with my rogue elbow.

We only get to try dancing once in our costumes before the live show, which is of course at the dress rehearsal. My outfit for the samba had a long tail of ruffles, which was fine whilst standing still, but as soon I was on the dance floor I realised how heavy it was, as in every turn it carried on spinning way after I had stopped.

Stepping out of a double turn, the weight of the offending ruffles threw me off balance and I fell into Artem's line of fire, and his poor old conk was the casualty. The only thing was, I hadn't noticed I had done anything, so when he failed to come and help me off the floor after the dance finished, I thought him rather ungentlemanly for a second until when he came over I noticed blood on his shirt.

Artem played down how bad he felt, but after he had disappeared for good twenty mins from the dress run, I realised something more serious was wrong, and I found him in his dressing room with the medic in a rather dazed state.

There had been a question mark for several hours over whether he would appear in the professional dancers' group number that evening as he was feeling so dizzy that lifting Janette may have been dangerous, but Artem was determined and even through feeling terrible, he was ever the pro and supportive of me. Mortified wasn't the word!

And the inevitable comparisons to my Coronation Street character were quick to follow. But Artem had warned me that he didn't want me to hold back my performance that evening in fear of a repeat assault, and when he whooped in the middle of the number I knew it was all systems go! Artem was the ultimate gentleman throughout the day, and my punishment in the rehearsal studio of going through this week's dance twenty times in a row without stopping has yet to be exacted!

This week we're Viennese waltzing to an amazing track by Natalie Duncan called 'Devil in Me' - perfectly titled for Halloween week. It's very haunting and there's lots of arm wafting, but Artem has unsurprisingly positioned me at a safe distance from him for those moves!
