Quite honestly, fourteen years on and we still get emosh just thinking about it.
That fateful last performance on The National Lottery where the four of them all bid 'poorly' Geri to 'get well soon'.

Speaking on their Christmas Eve documentary, it's revealed what led up to her decision and that it wasn't as much of a shock to the girls as it was to us.
Mel C says: “She’d left before but not publicly. I mean, I think a few of them had left, well, Melanie and Geri left a few times."

Mel then pretty much confesses that Geri's departure was in part down to her relationship with the other Mel, Scary Spice.
"But you know she was having some personal issues and it’s no secret that her and Melanie had a very fiery relationship in the past."
Fiery, read: quite occasionally couldn't stand each other.
Mel added: "They, they are the closest of all of the band. You know, they’re absolutely in each other’s pockets or they can fight like cat and dog.”
And we reckon it's safe to say that by the time Geri left it was very much the latter.
Meanwhile, Geri says:
“Viva Forever is probably one of the saddest songs for me, because I remember when I was on stage with them and I kind of knew I’d had enough."
Even NOW, we just want to scream 'NOOOOO!'
"We were sort of growing apart. Growing separately in certain ways I felt. And I could feel it. I’d lost grip of it and I think the actual video of it shows that you know, we had a cartoon. We weren’t in it.”
But thankfully, the girls did eventually make friends and reunited as a five piece in 2010.
