Week-on-week the show has been losing viewers, making show boss  Simon Cowell a very unhappy man.

In a bid to boost ratings, Simon Cowell was reportedly considering rejoining the UK panel next year.

However, according to The Sun, the music mogul's plan to fly between the US and UK versions of the show may not work out as Simon is worried that the contestants he is mentoring will suffer.

The paper reports that Simon told a close friend: "I don't want to damage my acts."

Simon also told his mate that rival show Strictly judges Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli have it easy flying back and forth the US and UK series because they don't need to mentor anyone.

He said: "Bruno and Len fly back and forth each week between LA and London on Strictly — but they are just judges, they don't have to work with the contestants."

A source close to  Simon Cowell also told the paper: "Simon prides himself on being a good mentor and he just cannot see a way to juggle three acts in America and three acts in the UK.

"He would be instantly open to accusations that he is not hands-on enough — and that is the opposite of how he works.

"Simon is desperately trying to find a way to do it but he's convinced it's a no-go."

It was reported last week that former judge Cheryl Cole has been in talks to return to the series next year meaning that current judge Tulisa could be facing the axe.
