The 60-year-old former judge left the show six years ago and is now poised to return with an almighty bang.
They revealed: “Simon is a huge fan of Sharon.
“Things are looking good for her. She is in pole position.”
It was reported that Simon was close to finding a replacement for Tulisa earlier this year with Sharon and Spice girl Mel B being the front runners for the job.
However, with Mel B now taking Sharon’s former seat on the America’s Got Talent panel AND Australia’s Got Talent panel, it seems that the 37-year-old won’t have the time to work on a third show.
Spending time insulting the public as they perform on stage is probably tiring enough as it is- yet alone having to do it in three different time zones.
And in another strange turn of events, former X Factor judge Dannii Minogue has been given a place on the Australian X Factor judging panel- a seat formerly held by Mel B.
This is fast becoming a game of judging musical chairs.
She told the Sunday People: "I haven't been axed from 'The X Factor'. I love the show, I'd always want to do it. Last year was much harder than my first series but I did enjoy it.
"I've contacted Simon and had dinner with show producer Richard Holloway and his wife a couple of weeks ago.
"We're all friends and I've not been told that I won't be going back."
