Lead singer of 'The Noisettes' Shingai Shoniwa has branded shows such as 'The X Factor' as to having a 'negative' impact on the music industry.

Speaking exclusively to omg! Shingai admitted that although it wasn't her place to pass judgment, she believed that artists who have come out of TV talent shows have left less room for creativity in the charts.

She told us: "I don't think it has much of a positive effect on the landscape of the charts."

"If you have less and less room to foster the talent of people whose first concern is music and creativity then we are not going to have a creative industry anymore."

When asked if the offer ever arose for 'The Noisettes' to perform on a TV talent show, Shingai admitted that she would be open to it in a bid to educate the public and contestants.

She explained: "A gig's a gig, it might inspire somebody who is on that show who probably doesn't even know what a band is or what goes into a band."

"For example, One Direction, I think people are calling them a band now. If an actual band went on the X Factor and [a contestant said] 'Oh I really like that they've actually tuned up their instruments' that would be great- you never know who you are going to inspire."

Shingai's major problem with TV talent shows isn't primarily the artists who have come out of them such as One Direction but instead the people who judge them.

"One thing I would object to is being the judge of someone else, I don't think that it's any one person's right to decide whether they are good or bad. I just think that it's a little bit too far and it's quite reflective of the narcissism of the judge based on their tastes"

"Who is there to judge others really? Let real fans be a judge, not the people who are at the end of a TV screen!"

The Noisettes are currently gearing up for the release of their third album 'Contact' and will be performing at the Jamie Oliver founded festival "The Big Feastival' which will be held on former Blur front man Alex James' farm.

Talking about the festival, Shingai is looking forward to taking part.

She admitted: "We've met Alex James years ago who is a great guy I'd heard of [the festival] before and we're now learning more and more each day. The line up is great!"

"It's going to be one of those festivals when you have lots of different age groups all mucking in and making total fools of themselves. It's not going to be a festival full of cool kids trying to look cool it's going to be a real family frenzy type festival and I think that they are sometimes the best kind."

Jamie Oliver presents The Big Feastival with Alex James will take place on September 1st and 2nd on Alex's farm in Kingham, Oxfordshire. Tickets for The Big Feastival are on sale now from
