The Met Gala saw the A-list don their very best red carpet style in New York City on Monday, and feathers were a big trend to fly into the Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Schiaparelli and Prada 'Impossible Conversations' Costume Institute Gala last night was a huge trend-spotting opportunity, with metallics, peplum and backless trends all on display.

It was the feather dresses that really caught out imagination at the Met Gala 2012.

New mother Beyonce went all out with a huge feathered train of black and purple at the end of her Givenchy gown.

The stairs were cleared so she could pose appropriately and give the dress all the room it needed.

Diane Kruger also opted for purple feathers, but went for an entirely purple Prada concoction.

The actress' frock teamed a simple strappy top half with a voluminous skirt and train.

Also opting for Prada, Kate Bosworth wore her feathers all over her mini.

The dip-dye effect went from burgundy up top to match her lipstick, getting darker as it headed down.

The black full-length number meant Cate Blanchett was covered in feathers from head to toe.
