Talking to omg! at the press conference for series two, the 24-year-old singer admitted that despite the show being criticised last year she wouldn’t have signed up to it again if it didn’t have any credibility.

She told us: “If it was that bad it wouldn’t be back for second series.

Explaining why she took so long, Jessie revealed that it wasn’t anything to do with her having reservations about the program.

She said: “For me, it was an amazing thing and a bad thing because I was so busy I had to choose – I had the option of writing a second album, do an arena tour, or sign up for The Voice.

“I had to ask myself if I wanted to turn on the TV and see someone else in my chair and I was like NO!

“That’s the diva in me, I worked hard for that and they would have had to scratch the name off the back of it.

“I said that I wanted to do it, but didn’t want to rush the second album but I’ve had enough time now to write a great second album and it would have been crap if I’d rushed it.”

The Voice returns to BBC1 on 30th March.
