Gareth Gates confesses on The Big Reunion that having sex with Katie Price almost ruined his career

The Pop Idol runner up claims his affair with Jordan soiled his reputation... *cough*

He previously admitted he struggled to cope with the backlash following the secret tryst.

And now Gareth Gates has admitted that his affair with Katie Price had a serious impact on his career and how the world saw him.

Gareth Gates says his affair with Katie Price almost ruined his career.

Speaking with Dane Bowers (who also dated Katie) on The Big Reunion, Gareth admitted he struggled to come to terms with the model selling their 'hotel sex' story and revealing their relationship.

He confessed: "I certainly had to warm people back to me, after not being honest with people."

He mother, Wendy, added: "We chose to believe it didn't happen. The reaction of people was awful, that people were talking about my son like that."

Gareth initially lied about the relationship to his family and friends, even after Katie sold the story to the tabloids.

Katie Price revealed during a magazine interview that she'd slept with Gareth Gates while she was pregnant with …

He revealed last night: "For me I was very young, I had to say I don't want to have a long term relationship at this age, so she sold the story, and I said it was all lies.

"The only thing I thought in my head to do was say it had never happened, I felt I had to because I didn't want my family to know about my sex life, I didn't tell anyone my family or friends, so they all backed me."

The 29-year-old admitted that the idea of his mum hearing about his sex life really upset him, especially after building up such an 'innocent' celebrity persona - although he now wishes he had been honest.

He added: "But I denied the whole thing because I was 17, I didn't want my family to find out about my sex life.

"If I hadn't of lied it wouldn't have been a big deal, my family, friends and fans wouldn't have felt as let down, I guess."
