EXCLUSIVE: ‘One Direction are just kids’ says Matt Cardle at TV BAFTAs

One Direction have had to grow up pretty fast following their world-wide domination of pop music and teenage (and older women's) hearts, but this worries their fellow X Factor contestant, Matt Cardle.

Speaking at last night's TV BAFTA red carpet, Matt Cardle told omg!: "I spoke to the One Direction guys the other day, they don't get a second to be kids and they are just kids."

There singer who beat Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Niall Horan to win the X Factor in 2010 only has admiration for the band:

"I'm so happy for them [One Direction] they're just killing it, and it's deserved they worked very hard  on the show and the worked hard now."

And the former X Factor love doesn't end there with Matt revealing he and Aiden Grimshaw are still firm friends: "I still speak to Aiden, we went out the other night and got a bit drunk as we always do."

We think Matt deserves a few drinks especially after parting ways with his record label, Columbia last week.

Team omg! brought up the news during our chat and the signer was incredibly positive telling us:

"It was a decision made after a lengthy conversation between me and the management with regard to what direction I was going in and we didn't all think the same thing.

"Now I'm completely in control in what's going on in my musical direction and I'm super happy about that.

"[Lady]Gaga was dropped not long after she was first signed, people change directions and the record company changes along with that. The power is in my hands."

Yey, we hope so!
