Speaking exclusively to Yahoo! omg! ahead of the Christmas Celebration concert, 2010 champion Matt told us he's a big fan of Nicole Scherzinger's act.

He said: "I think James is amazing as an artist and a singer. I think he could definitely win. I'd love to see him win."

Matt, who's had two Top 10 albums this year despite leaving the Syco record label after winning the show, also dished out some advice for the shy Northerner.

He told us: "[I'd tell James] stay true to yourself and to who you are and what you believe musically."

And the fittie, who was in the famous class of 2010 with One Direction, told us that he also reckons there's another act who could do really well out of the show this year.

He said: "Union J were great. They've all got great voices. It's a shame [they went out in the semi-finals] but it happens. It's votes and if you don't get them, you don't go through.

Speaking about controversial contestant Christopher Maloney, who's also in the the final along with Jahmene Douglas, he said: "Chris is there because people are voting for him. It's as simple as that."

Talking about his own X Factor journey, he told us that he hopes he's proved you can be a genuine artist off the back of the ITV1 show.

He said: "I hope I've proved it. I feel as if I have. It hasn't been easy but I've written everything myself on both albums and I'm just over the moon I've been given the opportunity to do that."

Matt's brand new single 'Anyone Else' (out December 31) which is taken from his latest album 'The Fire' is a self-confessed a deeply personal track.

He told us: "It's about wanting to be with that one person. The whole album is drawn from personal experience."

And Matt isn't just busy with his own album and new single, he's got involved with this year's Christmas Celebration concert organised with Young Voices to raise funds for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people.

Matt, who had the disease himself when he was a kid, said the gig, which takes place at the Albert Hall on Wednesday December 12, is something that means a lot to him.

He told us: "I had cancer of the kidney when I was little and I'm just so happy to be a patron of the charity.

"I was one of the lucky ones. Not everybody's as lucky as I was but I'm a survivor."
