Since she joined Eastenders as Whitney Dean, Shona McGarty has had some pretty intense storylines to deal with. From dodgy boyfriends, abuse, family members sent to prison and friends dying, Whitney is never happy for long.

Last night at the Inside Soap Awards we asked Shona if she'd like Whitney to get a break. "No. I think she's just too damaged. There's no way we could wipe the slate clean. Things do happen and there are kids out there who have been through it."
She went on to tell us that her storylines have helped other young people: "We've had young girls who have said thankyou, you've made me realize that this happened to me." Wowzers.
Shona was chuffed that Eastenders won the Best Soap gong yet again. We asked her if she felt sorry for Coronation Street and she told us "Their time will come. I watch all the soaps - the tram crash! Oh my God! We all come into work and talk about the soaps the next day."
We'd love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.
