The stars of this year's X Factor semi-final took to the stage in London last night for an intimate secret show.
A shop was transformed into a gig venue by show sponsors TalkTalk, giving James Arthur, Union J, Jahmene Douglas and Christopher Maloney the opportunity to showcase their vocals away from the big production of the Saturday night shows.
Following a brief press conference, in which the final four named Ella Henderson and Jade Ellis as the eliminated acts they would re-instate if given the chance, Maloney stepped up to perform 'Die In Your Arms' and 'Hero'. He certainly sang his heart out and proved he is less shouty than his critics will have you believe, but with more cheesiness than the other three acts combined (dramatically snatching the mic out of the mic stand was a particular highlight), it remains hard to see him as a commercial recording artist.
Union J stepped up next, singing Snow Patrol's 'Run' and Taylor Swift's 'Love Story'. Josh and Jaymi led the way with some remarkable vocal gymnastics, as George and JJ supported with impressively tight harmonies. Jahmene Douglas followed, belting out some impressive riffs with his signature soulful tone.
Closing the night was a guitar-wielding James Arthur, who performed his own spins on 'Hometown Glory' and 'Sexy And I Know It'. It was probably he who drew the most excited reaction from the crowd.
Judging by the results over the last few weeks, it is probably Louis Walsh's fourpiece boyband or serial womaniser Arthur who will be kicked out of the competition in Sunday's semi-final results, but judging by their performances last night, both stand a very strong chance of chart success regardless of whether or not they're still in the running at the Manchester final.
