With the X Factor final only two weeks away, the pressure really mounted in tonight’s show as all of the contestants had to sing twice.
The first half of the show saw Rylan, Union J, Jahmene, James and Christopher sing songs by ABBA. An easy theme for the likes of Rylan and Christopher, but a more challenging one for the mellower James Arthur.
Despite that, the performance that impressed the judges the most was James’ rendition of SOS. Louis told the 23-year-old: “you’re a real talent, a true recording artist and people need to vote for you”.
The second half of the show saw all of the acts perform Motown songs. Gary seemed let down by Union J’s rendition of ‘I’ll Be There’ and told them: “I thought you could have gone the extra mile”.
James Arthur’s performance impressed all of the judges yet again, with Louis describing him as “a real, real world class act”. Jahmene also won over the judges: “You’ve got soul. You’re the real deal and I know you’re going to be in the final”. Essex boy Rylan stood out as well this week, and not just because of his extravagant outfits! The themes suited him well and allowed him to dance and sing his heart out. Louis told him: "I loved every single bit of it. You're the people's champion".
Tonight’s show also saw Gary having to stand up for his final act, Christopher Maloney. He admitted that he was starting to feel “slightly uncomfortable” at the negative and somewhat personal comments that the wild card act had been receiving.
